Absolutely phenominal documentary about birth in America today. From my own personal experience with both a hospital birth and a home birth, I can tell you it is SPOT ON!! Every woman should see this, whether they are already mothers, or eventually plan to become one. 5 STARS!!

    Thanks for the info! I've heard about this. The AMA wants to control the field by denying licenses to homebirth midwives, and allowing current ones to expire. It's a turf war. But it'll never stick. Studies have proven that homebirth is statistically SAFER than hospital birth for the 90% of healthy pregnant women who qualify for them. Countries that routinely practice midwifery and homebirth have far better overall outcomes than the US - we rank 40th (behind even Cuba), for childbirth safety, even with all our high-tech interventions (or perhaps because of them?). And the care I received from my homebirth midwife was far more thorough than any OB I've ever had, from nutrition, to regularly testing my iron levels (anemia), to positioning the baby. I plan to go back to homebirth midwives for my well-woman care from now on.
