Well Baby

I took Amanda in for her check-up on Friday.  She weighed in at 21lbs, and has grown to 27 ½ inches tall.  She’s in size 5 diapers now, and everything she wears is size 18 months.  Poor thing had to get five shots, too!  That always makes me nervous.  It just seems like a lot in one day, even for an adult.  With Eva, I had them break up some of her immunizations into several shots over time, as recommended by DAN (Defeat Autism Now).  Of course, that meant a lot more visits, and it got to the point where she’d start crying the minute we got into the doctor’s office.  I hated putting her through that.  With Amanda, I just decided to stick to the standard vaccination schedule, and get it over with.  Even though most kids in the US are vaccinated, a lot of immigrants and others aren’t, so you never know what you’re going to be exposed to.  In countries where vaccines aren’t used, kids still die of measles and other preventable illnesses.  I traveled internationally a lot, and I want my girls to be able to do the same without worrying about disease.

The more research I’ve done, the more I’m convinced that Autism has a lot to do with a combination of genetics, aggravated by environmental triggers.  My nephew’s symptoms decrease when he’s on a GFCF diet, and increase when he’s not, which makes me suspect that for some kids, gluten and casein have a lot to do with it.  The diet has become one of the most effective treatments for Autism.  Since Thimerosal was removed from all vaccines (except the flu shot), the primary suspected culprit has been eliminated, anyway.

  1. I guess Derek *IS* tall for his age too. He's already 28 inches (maybe more by now). Wow. lol

Awww, shots. Ugh, I hate them. Poor Amanda.

This photo is SO cute! LOL! Eva looks likes she's trying really hard to concentrate and listen and Amanda's hand gesture suggests she might be saying, "Well Doc, everything sound okay?". LOL!!!
