Traveling With Kids

I’ve flown alone with both the girls before, but this will be Dave’s first time flying alone with a toddler (*evil laugh*).  Don’t worry, I’m gonna pack him a little bag complete with crayons, snacks and toys to take on the plane, but after that, he’s on his own!  He’s lucky I booked him direct flights, because going through security and switching planes with kids is no picnic.  Still, Eva is a pretty easy-going kid.

I’m the one who worries about all the little details, like remembering to have her suck on a sippy cup during take-off and landing to help pop her ears with the altitude changes.  And making sure she gets some kind of nap in the afternoon to avoid meltdowns later, and keep her immune system from running down.  And packing her favorite instant oatmeal so when she wakes up in a new place, at least one thing is familiar. OK, Dave’s right…I AM the worrywart. LOL!  He’s the laid back one, so we compliment each other well.  I really shouldn’t worry because Dave is a wonderful father - he just does things differently.  But when you’re the one who’s caring for them all day, every day, and know every little quirk and preference, it can be hard to let go and trust someone else to handle the reins.  The last time I left Eva with Dave for any length of time was when I went to a weekend women’s retreat while pregnant with Amanda. They were fine, of course, but then they were at home, too.  I’m packing their suitcase for every contingency, though, so that’ll make me feel better.  LOL!

What I really should be worrying about is my own trip.  I’m flying with Amanda on my lap, changing planes in Chicago, and the entire trip is 7 hours. Yikes!  That’s a long time for an energetic crawler!  I know that airport carpet is disgusting, but I guess I’ll just have to let Amanda crawl on it to get some exercise and wear her out a bit, and just clean her up later.  I can see the disapproving glances now. Haha!  But I’m sure other passengers would rather I let her crawl if that means she’ll be quieter on the plane.  J
