Setback
Ever since that day with the two accidents, Eva is refusing to wear underpants, demanding diapers instead. Every once in awhile I catch her going through her drawer and looking at all the pretty Dora and “pincess” underwear just waiting for her to try on, but so far, even that isn’t enough of an incentive. “Don’t you want to wear underpants like Elmo?” I ask persuasively. “Elmo go potty, Mommy go potty, Daddy go potty….” she begins. “Eva goes potty like a big girl!” I reply. “No potty!” she responds, a hint of panic in her voice. “Wear diaper!” I really don’t know how this has turned into a negative thing. I’ve worked hard not to pressure her, using all the positive reinforcement I can think of (stickers, M&M’s, pretty underpants), and never any punishment. But I’m beginning to think it’s her little perfectionist side that’s standing in her way. She doesn’t like being wet, and diapers keep her dry. She thinks “poopy” is “yucky”, and for some reason, thinks the diaper is better (Better for whom? Certainly not the mommy!). I’ll never understand toddler logic! Besides that, all her 2T pants aren’t designed for diapers (I guess they assume kids are potty trained by two), so they sag dreadfully in the seat. 3T pants have enough room to stay up with her diaper on, but they’re too long, so I have to roll them into cuffs.
Both of my boys did this...I eventually just threw the diapers away...and let them see...while telling them they had to be "big boys" now. We put the undies on (and changed them a billion times a day the first week...but after that it was smooth sailing. :)
ReplyDeleteI dread going through this again with Derek. *groan* Good luck!
