Amanda drank from the sippy cup for the first time today! Eight months might seem a bit late, but she’s been nursing so frequently (and all her food has been pureed), so it wasn’t really needed until now. I chose the Nuby cup with the “no-leak” soft rubber spout. Even so, Amanda still tries to “nurse” on it, getting her tongue in the way, or pushing it out of her mouth by mistake. I’m sure she’ll catch on soon. We only give her water, just like we did with Eva, so she doesn’t get hooked on juice or milk all the time.
Eva is really excited about her new pet, “Dorothy”. We were at the store the other day and happened to walk past the fish tanks, and Eva saw the goldfish and said “Hi, Dorothy! Bring Dorothy home?” (For those not up-to-date on Children’s programming, “Dorothy” is Elmo’s pet fish on Sesame Street). Well, the lady said you ought to set up your fish bowl and let the water stand for about 24 hours before putting the fish in, so we went ahead and bought a complete kit for $8 (bowl, gravel, plastic plant, water conditioner and food), but waited on the fish. We brought it home and set it up on the counter, and Eva could talk of nothing else. “Where Dorothy?” she’d ask, peering into the empty bowl. I’d tell her we were going to get the fish tomorrow, so she’d call out, “Coming, Dorothy, coming!”, as if the fish could hear her. Today we went to buy the fish, and after we got home and put them in the bowl, Eva pushed her little potty chair over as leverage for a better look. “Hi, Dorothy!” she chirped. “Swim water!”
Awwwwwwww! LOL That's so cute!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED the Nuby cups!
I thought they were great starter cups, too. After a few months Eva figured out that she could squish the spouts into the floor and make puddles of water, so I had to switch to hard spouts. But as a transition to sippy cups, they're great!
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness! What a darling description of the whole process and her little heart and thoughts! I think this is one of my favorite pictures of her. She is just beaming. Oh, that we would remember the joy in the little things of life.
