11/26/07 - Amanda's First Thanksgiving

Dave had to work on Thanksgiving Day, but we joined some friends from church later in the evening for dinner.  Eva enjoyed playing with their 3-year-old daughter, and we all had a great time.  On Friday I packed up while David was at work.  Poor Eva squeezed into the space where I hid the humidifier and got a steam burn on her thumb, giving her a painful blister.  We took off around 5 o'clock, but didn't get far before Amanda started screaming, so we had to finally pull over at a Target store to change diapers and let her nurse.  She started crying the minute we put her back in her seat, of course, but soon fell asleep.  About an hour later we were cruising down the 5 when a deer suddenly dashed in front of us.  Dave swerved and managed to barely miss hitting it, but it certainly gave all of us a scare.  We arrived in Grants Pass around 11:30pm, and the next day had a belated Thanksgiving feast with my family.  Grandma Glynna made turkey and a ham, and Great-Grandma's famous Toll House pie (basically a giant chocolate-chip cookie).  She'd also set up Great-Grandma's Dickens Christmas village, complete with motorized skiers, sledders and ice skaters.  Eva was enthralled.

  1. We were sure thrilled you were able to come. You might want to add something about the great time Eva had pushing grandpa over and "picking" him up. It would mean a lot to your Dad. (He didn't say anything to me, so no one is offended.) Just a thought. Love, Mom
